SASS’s internship program offers aspiring professionals a unique opportunity to support our mission. During their internship, participants will gain valuable experience, receive hands on training and develop insights into our critical work, which focuses on supporting survivors and promoting social change through prevention education, community collaboration, and outreach efforts.
Please note: Internship enrollment is currently paused due to all positions being filled. We encourage interested candidates to check back at least three months before their intended start date, as our training process can take up to 3 months to complete. We will be hosting our Core Advocacy Training again in the Spring.
Throughout the internship, participants will:
- Earn Certification as a Privileged Advocate: Receive 40 hours of training in advocacy for victims sexual and domestic violence in accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes § 40.264 (2015).
- Learn Trauma-Informed Care: acquire an understanding of trauma-informed practices and their application in providing support for survivors
- Embrace Survivor-Centered Advocacy: gain insights into advocacy approaches that prioritize the survivor’s dignity, autonomy, and well being
- Develop Crisis Intervention and Safety Planning Skills: build expertise in responding to crises and assisting survivors in creating safety plans
- Expand Professional Networks: Connect with professionals in social services, social work, and other helping professions, fostering valuable relationships for their future careers
It’s important to note that due to the extensive training involved, internships with SASS are required to span at least one school year (9 months). You do not need to be enrolled in an internship class or be earning academic credit to participate.
